About our Archdruid -- Nathairwen's Biography

Nathairwen ("White Serpent") is the Arch Druid and co-founder of the Druid Gorsedd of the First Circle based in Southeastern Tennessee. A descendent of Irish, Scottish and English immigrants, Nathairwen was raised in the Appalachian region of Tennessee, where Celtic traditions still run deep if you know where they hide in those mysterious, old mountains. For over 30 years, Nathairwen has practiced various traditional Bardic skills such as poetry, metalworking and smith crafting. He has studied herbs and healing, and is an accomplished guitar musician and songwriter. During his five years in the US Navy, where he received the Navy Expeditionary Medal for Combat Duty, he had ample opportunity to explore the warrior path. It was in the early 90's when he met his friend and mentor, Myrddin Faolwen, that Nathairwen realized his self-described spiritual path had a name--Druidry. At Samhain, 1995, the Druid Gorsedd of the First Circle was founded, and soon after, Nathairwen was named Arch Druid.

Nathairwen holds a B.S. degree in metaphysics from the American Institute of Holistic Theology and is a gifted spiritual counselor. He is a member of the Ancient Order of Druids in America and Comhaltacht Draiocht. He currently resides in Benton, Tennessee with his wife and son, with frequent extended stays in New Orleans, Louisiana.
